Oak & Measure

Software made for the way musicians actually work.

Oak & Measure is an independent music software company focused on practical tools for musicians. Its first product, Recordside, grew from a simple idea: practice deserves better software.

Rather than scattering recordings, tabs, practice notes, video capture, learning resources, and progress across unrelated applications, Recordside brings them together around the act of practicing.

That is the whole idea. A musician sits down with a song, isolates the part they are learning, works on the difficult bars, records an attempt, notices what changed, and decides what to do next time. Those steps belong in one place, because they are one activity.

Our focus is on making useful, thoughtful software that respects the musician’s time, their music, and their way of working.

How we work

The things we keep coming back to.

Nothing here is a slogan. These are the constraints we use when deciding what Recordside should and should not do.

01

Practice is the product

Every decision is measured against one question: does this make the time a musician spends practicing more useful?

02

Practical over impressive

A feature earns its place by being used in a real session, not by sounding good in a list of features.

03

Honest about limits

Separation is imperfect, timing evidence is confidence-dependent, and nothing here scores your ability. We would rather say so than oversell it.

04

Yours, on your machine

Your recordings, Takes, and history stay on your computer. The core experience works offline and does not require a cloud account.

05

The materials you already use

Your teacher, your method book, your course, and your own recordings stay part of the picture. Recordside organizes them, it does not replace them.

06

Built for the long haul

Practice is a slow, patient activity. The software should be the same: steady, quiet, and worth coming back to.

Oak & Measure

What we will not do

A short list, kept deliberately short.

Most of these are things the music software world does comfortably. We are not going to.

  • We will not turn practice into a game with scores, streaks, or leaderboards.
  • We will not claim to judge your technique, your timing, or your talent.
  • We will not pretend a release is closer than it is.
  • We will not sell your music, or build a catalogue out of it.

Updates

Follow the development of Recordside.

Recordside is being built to bring the whole practice process together, from playing alongside the original recording to reviewing your performance and planning what comes next.

  • Development milestones as the product takes shape
  • Product previews, without promising dates we cannot keep
  • Availability news, including the Windows release

Updates relate to Oak & Measure and Recordside only. An unsubscribe link will be included before any campaign is sent.
